About

So, a long time ago I made a promise, not a big promise and probably not one that anyone would take seriously. I promised myself that I’d plant trees, lots of trees and I promised my patient and long-suffering wife that I’d name the resulting wood after her. She’s always been unfailingly kind especially to animals so creating a space for wildlife seemed like a good thing to do.

If you’re reading this at any time around December 24th, 2017 you’re finding out at roughly  the same time my wife is that I’ve bought a great big wood just outside Banagher in Co Offaly.

It’s a lovely mix of conifers and broadleaves. Over time the conifers will be harvested and replaced with native broadleaves. The existing broadleaves will be managed to improve the quality of the forest. When wood is to be harvested it will be done using continuous cover management – never clearing the entire site always leaving habitat for wildlife. Managing the wood in this way promotes different canopy heights which is better for biodiversity.
